Whether you’re a book worm, fashionista or wine connoisseur, there is plenty to do in the DMV this weekend! Maybe we will see you out at Baltimore’s Book Festival, DC’s Fashion Week or Virginia’s Bands, Brews and Barbecue!


Washington, DC Events

The District Flea
The District Flea Grounds

Time: Saturdays, Now-October 19th, 10am-5pm
Expect 70-80 vendors of everything from vintage eyeglass frames to antique furniture and vintage clothing at this big, new flea market on a 37,000 square foot lot in Shaw, created by the producers of New York’s famous Brooklyn Flea. For foodies: Look out for food trucks including Red Hook Lobster Pound, and a beer garden manned by Church Key’s Greg Engert.

The DC Shorts Film Festival
Time: Now-September 29th.
The DC Shorts Film Festival is the Washington, DC area’s only film festival dedicated to showcasing and discussing short films from around the world. The lineup covers a variety of genres: dramas, comedies, animation, sci-fi, documentaries, and creative experimental films. Please visit the website for times and locations of specific showings as well as pricing for that particular showing.

DC Fashion Week  DC Fashion Week highlights fashion design, clothing merchandising and modeling as well as enhances the visibility of the nation’s capital as a center of international fashion. Pricing varies per event, please visit website for more details.

Southwest DC Arts Festival

The Southwest DC Arts Festival brings the Washington DC community together to celebrate the arts and showcase the Southwest Waterfront. Fall For the Book Festival

Time:  Friday exhibits start at 10am
George Mason University will host the annual Fall for the Book Festival. Participating authors will include Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Karen Armstrong, Marie Arana, Scott W. Berg, Daniel Stashower, Virginia Pye, Bob Shacochis and Mary Kay Zuravleff. Please visit the website for specific times and exhibits.

Walking Tour: All The Presidents Pups
3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Alexandria, VA
Times: Saturdays, September 7th-October 26th, 10am-12pm
Price: $5 in addition to estate admission. Pups are free!
This special walking tour covers 1.25 miles of Mount Vernon terrain stopping at five historic locations, including the West Gate. Learn about canine life at Mount Vernon, from the first president’s dogs to the dogs that live at Mount Vernon today. It is well documented that the first president loved dogs. After the Revolutionary War, Washington tried to improve the quality of his hunting dogs through breeding. According to the American Kennel Club, Washington is the father of the American Foxhound.
Note: Extended walking on uneven terrain; 90 minutes. All dogs must be leashed with their owner at all times. Dogs are allowed around the estate but not in the historic buildings, movie theaters, Museum or Education Center exhibition galleries.

With giant slides, music stage, corn path and much more, this fall festival goes well beyond the traditional pumpkin patch and hayrides. (Though they have that, too!)

Calvert County Fair

The Calvert County Fair is one of the oldest in Maryland, dating back to 1886 when local men got together to display their cattle and tobacco as a social event. Today, the fair includes a wide range of activities including farm animals, exhibits, musical, entertainment, food, carnival rides, contests and a 4H auction.

Maryland Renaissance Festival

The Maryland Renaissance Festival recreates a 16th century English village with crafts, food, live performances on 8 stages, a jousting arena and lots of games.

Baltimore Book Festival

The Baltimore Book Festival features hundreds of author appearances and book signings, 100+ exhibitors and booksellers, non-stop readings on multiple stages, cooking demos by celebrity chefs, poetry readings and workshops, panel discussions, walking tours, storytellers and hands-on projects for kids, street theater, live music and a delicious variety of food, beer and wine.

Oktoberfest Festivals

Oktoberfest is the worlds largest fair held annually in Munich, Germany, but just because we don’t live in Germany doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the German way! With so many wonderful Oktoberfest events going on around the area, it might be hard to pick and choose! Below is a list of just some of the festivals going on around the area.

The popular Dupont Circle bar will transform its outdoor patio into a Biergarten serving German favorites like Paulaner Hefeweizen, Oktoberfest, Pilsner and Spaten as well as German specialties from the grill like soft pretzels, sausages and mustards, and traditional garnishes. Live German bands Liab Und Schneid, The Polka Brothers and Continentals of Washington, DC will play on select days. Daily beginning at 12:00 p.m.
