It’s beginning to feel a little more like spring! Ready to get outside? Go fly a kite, find an egg, and enjoy the weather before April showers begin! Find these events and more in our roundup of weekend happenings.


Walter E. Washington Convention Center

Time: Friday-Sunday
Cost: $40 for Friday or Sunday, $55 for Saturday, or $80 for all 3 days; children $10

Stars of screens big and small, popular comic book creators, and thousands of their fans will descend upon the DC for a weekend-long comic book and sci-fi blowout of epic proportions. Prepare for an atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else in DC this spring (think cosplay, or lots and lots of costume-clad fans).

Blossom Kite Festival
Grounds of the Washington Monument
17th St and Constitution Ave, DC
Time: Saturday 10-4:30
Cost: FREE

One of the most highly-anticipated events of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the entire family can watch expert kite fliers from all over the world participate in a stunt kite-flying event, kite ballet, and various high-flying spectacles in the sky. Make sure you bring your camera and a kite of your own!

Spring Wine Fling
Various restaurants in DC
Time: through Sunday
Cost: $15-25

Calling all oenophiles: travel the world through wine at over 25 DC metro area restaurants and wine bars. Each venue will offer flights of wine at fixed prices, giving you a chance to sip your way through an array of varietals: for $15 you can taste a flight of three pours, and $25 gets you a flight of five wines.


Glow Egg Hunt

Time: Thursday 7-8PM
Cost: $12 for admission and two drinks

Finally, an Easter egg hunt for the 21+ crowd! These glow-in-the-dark eggs hidden in the park are filled with candy, but also gift cards and great tickets to area events and venues – plus a grand prize of $200. Bring a basket or bag to collect your eggs, and don’t be late!

World Dance Showcase

Several professional troupes perform dances from a panoply of cultural traditions, with breathtaking costumes, authentic music, and enchanting grace.

Carroll Arts Center

A display of marshmallow masterpieces with more than 150 sculptures, dioramas, graphic arts, oversized characters, and mosaics created and inspired by PEEPS®. This sweet event attracts thousands annually.


Egg Hunt & Spring Showcase
Plaza America, Reston
Time: Saturday 10-2

Visit with the Easter bunny, jam out to live music by the #1 DC Event Band – ONYX, hop away on the moon bounce, enjoy a face painter and balloon twister, visit participating retailers for a special egg hunt, and get your craft on at a spring-themed craft table!

Fairfax County, Virginia celebrates the National Cherry Blossom Festival with free gifts, Japanese craft demonstrations, all the festival information, and much more!

Dinosaur Egg Hunt
Hidden Oaks Nature Center

Time: Thursday-Sunday
Cost: $8 per child; 2-8 years old

Stomp over to Hidden Oaks Nature Center to enjoy a dinosaur-themed program and outdoor egg hunt while visiting Dinoland in Nature Playce. Make a dino craft. The hunts are held on a timed schedule throughout the day – check the website for details.
